Forest teak chaukhat with a single rebate, for one door. 4 × 2.5 to 6 × 3 inch wood sections. Single rebate: one step cut along the frame for the door to close against. Used for a normal single door. Forest teak comes from forest corporation (Nigam) auctions: dense, deep-coloured and our most premium wood, for a main door frame.

Teak from forest areas, bought through forest corporation (Nigam) auctions. Dense, deep-coloured and our most premium door wood. Ask for the lot papers.

Before you buy

“Forest teak” and “Nigam teak” describe where the wood grew or how it was sold. They do not prove tree age or grade.
Ask for the papers of the lot, and read each paper only for what it actually proves.
Older teak, or teak stored for years, is not automatically better or ready to use.

Questions about this chaukhat

Can a jali door hang on this chaukhat too?

No. A single rebate has a step on one side only, for one door. For a jali (mesh) door in front of the main door, the chaukhat needs a double rebate: the forest teak (sagwan) chaukhat with a double rebate is from ₹369 per running ft.

How many running ft do I need?

Add the two sides and the top of the door opening: a 7 × 3 ft door needs 7 + 7 + 3 = 17 running ft. Send us the door height and width and we confirm the exact length and price.

Single or double rebate: which do I need?

A single rebate frame has a step on one side for one door. A double rebate frame has steps on both sides, so a second shutter such as a jali door can be hung on the same chaukhat. If you are not sure, tell us how the doorway will be used and we will suggest one.

What does "4 × 2.5 inch section" mean?

It is the size of the wood the chaukhat is made from: a 4 × 2.5 inch cross-section. This chaukhat comes in 4 × 2.5, 5 × 2.5, 6 × 2.5, 4 × 3, 5 × 3, 6 × 3 inch sections; a bigger section is stronger and suits a heavier door. It is not the size of the door opening, so also tell us the door height and width.

Why does forest teak cost more for the same size?

The CFT is the same, but forest teak wood costs more than imported teak, which costs more than plantation teak. So the door price is higher.

Is a door included?

No. The chaukhat is the frame only. Doors are separate items; our teak doors are listed on this page.

Do you fit the chaukhat?

Usually your mason or construction workers fix it while the house is being built. We can fit it on request for a small charge. Fitting is free for our doors and windows.

What should I check in a chaukhat?

That it is straight, with no bend or twist along its length, and has no deep cracks near the joints and fixing points. Know the finished size, not just the rough size, and ask how the bottom will be protected from damp and deemak.
