What CFT means and how wooden door prices are worked out
CFT is the amount of wood in a door. Together with the wood type and size, it decides the price. Here is how to read size, CFT and price together, and what to ask about other costs.

In short
- CFT means cubic feet: the volume of wood in the door, not its height × width.
- The price depends on the wood (forest teak costs most, then imported teak, then plantation teak) and on the size.
- Door prices start at ₹14,350 for a plantation teak single door, 7 ft × 2.5 ft, 3 CFT.
- Double door prices are for the full set of two leaves.
- Before you pay, ask for the full amount: chaukhat, any hardware and delivery.
Every NordWood door listing shows three things: the size (height × width), the wood volume in CFT, and the price. Reading the three together tells you what you are paying for.
What CFT means
CFT stands for cubic feet. It measures volume, that is, how much wood there is. One CFT is the wood in a block 1 ft long, 1 ft wide and 1 ft thick. In the timber trade, wood is bought and sold by CFT.
The CFT of a door is not its height × width. Height × width tells you how big the door looks on the wall. CFT tells you how much wood goes into it, which depends on the size and thickness of all the pieces in it. For example, our 7 ft × 2.5 ft single door uses 3 CFT of wood.
What sets the price
- Wood type. Forest teak costs more than imported teak, and imported teak costs more than plantation teak.
- Size. A bigger door uses more CFT, so it costs more.
- Single or double. Double door prices are for the full set of two leaves. At the same size, a double door usually needs a little more wood than a single door.
For the same size, the CFT is the same in all three teaks. The price is different because the wood rate is different. Our lowest door price is ₹14,350, for a plantation teak single door of 7 ft × 2.5 ft (3 CFT). The same size in imported teak or forest teak is also 3 CFT, but costs more. This table shows every single door size:
| Size (H × W) | CFT | Plantation teak | Imported teak | Forest teak |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7 × 2.5 ft | 3 | ₹14,350 | ₹16,450 | ₹20,050 |
| 7 × 3 ft | 3.5 | ₹15,970 | ₹18,420 | ₹22,620 |
| 7 × 3.5 ft | 4 | ₹17,590 | ₹20,390 | ₹25,190 |
| 7 × 4 ft | 4.5 | ₹19,210 | ₹22,360 | ₹27,760 |
| 8 × 2.5 ft | 3.25 | ₹15,325 | ₹17,600 | ₹21,500 |
| 8 × 3 ft | 4 | ₹17,480 | ₹20,280 | ₹25,080 |
| 8 × 3.5 ft | 4.25 | ₹18,785 | ₹21,760 | ₹26,860 |
| 8 × 4 ft | 5 | ₹20,940 | ₹24,440 | ₹30,440 |
Prices are per door. Double door sizes and prices are in our door rate list.
The full amount
The price shown is for the exact door you selected. Before you confirm, ask for the complete amount, including:
- The chaukhat, if you need one. It is a separate item.
- Any hardware or other items you have asked for.
- Delivery. We deliver in our own vehicle between 9 am and 7 pm, and unloading and carrying to upper floors are included.
Fitting is free for NordWood doors and windows. Chaukhat and window frame fitting is available on request for a small charge. At least 50% of the order amount is paid before dispatch.
How to compare prices fairly
- Keep the type and size fixed, then compare woods. For example, a 7 ft × 3 ft single door in each of the three teaks.
- Then, if you need to, compare other sizes one by one as separate options.
- When comparing with another shop, check that both quotes are for the same wood, the same size and the same unit, and whether the sizes are rough or finished.
- Check what is included in each: frame, hardware, polish, delivery and fitting.
A lower rate per CFT does not always mean a cheaper door once everything is added up.
For sizes that are not listed
Do not try to work out the price of an unlisted size by multiplying CFT by a rate. The CFT of a custom size depends on how it is made. Send us the size and ask for a quote.

Questions people ask
What does 3 CFT mean on a door listing?
It means the door uses 3 cubic feet of wood. It tells you the amount of wood, not the height and width of the door.
Why does forest teak cost more for the same size?
The CFT is the same, but forest teak wood costs more than imported teak, which costs more than plantation teak. So the door price is higher.
Is the double door price for one leaf?
No. It is for the full set of two leaves.
