Standard door sizes: 7 ft and 8 ft heights, single and double widths

Most size mix-ups start with how the size is written. "3 by 7" can mean different things to different people, and a number without a unit can be read as feet or inches. Writing the size the same way every time avoids a wrong order.

Write the size the same way every time

On our shop pages, door sizes are written as height × width. Write yours the same way, with the unit next to each number:

• Clear: 7 ft × 3 ft (height 7 ft, width 3 ft).
• Clear: 7 ft × 2 ft 6 in (the same as 7 ft × 2.5 ft).
• Not clear: "3 by 7", or numbers with no unit.

NordWood standard door sizes

Every NordWood door, in plantation teak, forest teak and imported teak, comes in 10 standard sizes:

Each size has its own price and its own wood volume (CFT), shown on the shop page when you select it. Prices start at ₹14,350 for a plantation teak single door of 7 ft × 2.5 ft. Our note on CFT and pricing explains how to read these numbers.

Know what you measured

Three different things often get called "the door size":

• The wall opening: the gap left in the brickwork.
• The chaukhat: the frame fixed in that opening. Its inside size is smaller than the opening.
• The door (shutter): the part that opens and closes, which fits inside the chaukhat.

The sizes on our shop page are door sizes. Do not measure the wall opening and order a door of the same size. And do not add or cut a few inches by guess to allow for the frame. Ask your mistri to measure and confirm the door size you need, or ask us for a site visit.

Measuring tips

• Measure the width at the top, middle and bottom, and the height on the left and right. Openings are not always perfectly square. Note the smallest reading.
• Note whether the floor is finished. Tiles or stone laid later will raise the floor level.
• Write down which way the door will open.
• For an existing chaukhat, measure inside the frame and note whether it has a single or a double rebate.

Choosing from the list

1. Choose the wood: plantation teak, forest teak or imported teak.
2. Choose single or double.
3. Pick the height and width that match your confirmed door size.
4. Note the price and CFT shown for that exact size.

If your size is not in the list, do not choose the nearest one and hope it fits. Send us the height and width with units and we can discuss a custom size.
