Imported Teak Chaukhat (Door Frame) – Double Rebate

Imported teak chaukhat with a double rebate, for a main door and a jali door. 5 × 2.5 to 6 × 3 inch wood sections. Double rebate: two steps cut in the frame, so you can fit a main door and a jali (mesh) door on the same chaukhat. Imported teak is teak grown in Africa and shipped to India: good colour and strength, priced between plantation and forest teak.

This chaukhat has a double rebate: a step on both sides of the frame, so a jali (mesh) door can hang in front of the main door to let air in and keep mosquitoes out. For a door with no jali door, the imported teak chaukhat with a single rebate is from ₹211 per running ft.

About imported teak

Teak grown in Africa and shipped to India. Good colour and strength, priced between plantation and forest teak. Make sure it is true teak.

Also known as: African teak (Ghana and nearby)
Best for: Main and inside doors, windows

Before you buy

Real teak (sagwan) is Tectona grandis. “African teak” is also used for Iroko, a different wood, so get the species written on the bill.
A country name like Ghana or Tanzania tells you where the wood came from, not its grade. Judge the heartwood, usable size, defects and moisture.
Time on a ship is not seasoning. Ask for current moisture readings before the wood is machined.

Questions about this chaukhat

What hangs on a double rebate chaukhat?

The main door on one side and a second shutter, such as a jali (mesh) door, on the other. If you want the jali door, tell us at the start so both are planned together.

How many running ft do I need?

Add the two sides and the top of the door opening: a 7 × 3 ft door needs 7 + 7 + 3 = 17 running ft. Send us the door height and width and we confirm the exact length and price.

Single or double rebate: which do I need?

A single rebate frame has a step on one side for one door. A double rebate frame has steps on both sides, so a second shutter such as a jali door can be hung on the same chaukhat. If you are not sure, tell us how the doorway will be used and we will suggest one.

What does "5 × 2.5 inch section" mean?

It is the size of the wood the chaukhat is made from: a 5 × 2.5 inch cross-section. This chaukhat comes in 5 × 2.5, 6 × 2.5, 5 × 3, 6 × 3 inch sections; a bigger section is stronger and suits a heavier door. It is not the size of the door opening, so also tell us the door height and width.

Are imported teak and African teak the same?

No. Imported teak can come from several regions. “African teak” is a loose trade name, so check whether the wood is Tectona grandis or another species.

Is a door included?

No. The chaukhat is the frame only. Doors are separate items; our teak doors are listed on this page.

Do you fit the chaukhat?

Usually your mason or construction workers fix it while the house is being built. We can fit it on request for a small charge. Fitting is free for our doors and windows.

What should I check in a chaukhat?

That it is straight, with no bend or twist along its length, and has no deep cracks near the joints and fixing points. Know the finished size, not just the rough size, and ask how the bottom will be protected from damp and deemak.
