Plantation teak (sagwan) chaukhat with a single rebate, for one door. 4 × 2.5 to 6 × 3 inch wood sections. Single rebate: one step cut along the frame for the door to close against. Used for a normal single door. Plantation teak is real teak (sagwan), grown on managed plantations: a good-value frame that matches a teak door.

About plantation teak (sagwan)

Real teak, grown on managed plantations. Lighter in colour, easy to work and good value. Check for heartwood and proper seasoning.

Before you buy

Plantation teak is real teak (sagwan). “Plantation” only tells you how the tree was grown, not how good the boards are.
Judge the actual wood: sound heartwood, straightness, defects, real finished size and moisture.
No teak is termite-proof or maintenance-free. Good making, fitting and finish still matter.

Can a jali door hang on this chaukhat too?

No. A single rebate has a step on one side only, for one door. For a jali (mesh) door in front of the main door, the chaukhat needs a double rebate: the plantation teak (sagwan) chaukhat with a double rebate is from ₹179 per running ft.

How many running ft do I need?

Add the two sides and the top of the door opening: a 7 × 3 ft door needs 7 + 7 + 3 = 17 running ft. Send us the door height and width and we confirm the exact length and price.

Single or double rebate: which do I need?

A single rebate frame has a step on one side for one door. A double rebate frame has steps on both sides, so a second shutter such as a jali door can be hung on the same chaukhat. If you are not sure, tell us how the doorway will be used and we will suggest one.

What does "4 × 2.5 inch section" mean?

It is the size of the wood the chaukhat is made from: a 4 × 2.5 inch cross-section. This chaukhat comes in 4 × 2.5, 5 × 2.5, 6 × 2.5, 4 × 3, 5 × 3, 6 × 3 inch sections; a bigger section is stronger and suits a heavier door. It is not the size of the door opening, so also tell us the door height and width.

Is plantation teak real teak?

Yes, when it is Tectona grandis. “Plantation” describes how the tree was grown, not a different species.

Is a door included?

No. The chaukhat is the frame only. Doors are separate items; our teak doors are listed on this page.

Do you fit the chaukhat?

Usually your mason or construction workers fix it while the house is being built. We can fit it on request for a small charge. Fitting is free for our doors and windows.

What should I check in a chaukhat?

That it is straight, with no bend or twist along its length, and has no deep cracks near the joints and fixing points. Know the finished size, not just the rough size, and ask how the bottom will be protected from damp and deemak.
